Ma quest'inizio in chiave fiction, con luce artefatta da photoshooting è un depistaggio: qualcosa che, per contrasto, faccia risaltare la reale natura di Barzini, imponendosi con forza su quella bidimensionale, amplificata dalle passerelle, dalle cover di riviste come "Harper's Bazaar" agli altri media. "Ho passato la vita a filmare e fotografare mia madre, senza sapere perché. È stata la mia prima modella, la mia preferita. Quando mi ha detto di aver deciso di andarsene e di non tornare mai più, ho capito che non ero pronto a lasciarla andare. Se al centro del discorso, oltre al desiderio di fuga e anonimato della protagonista, c'è un conflitto sui limiti del rappresentabile, non c'è dubbio che un elemento invisibile risalti con forza: l'amore incondizionato e parossistico tra i due. The story of a conscientious objector and outsider in greater Germany during World War II is very similar to 2013's "13 Minutes" which is told in a much tighter, traditional pace. I usually don't even know the director's name when I watch a film, but while watching this one, I couldn't help but notice similarities to the near-great but disappointing "The New World" from 2005. Lo and behold, both were directed by Malick, and both suffer from way too many long pauses in the dialogue. To pan around the countryside to show how idyllic a farm community is might work three or four times, but it happens maybe 25 times. Malick should have cut an hour and added connecting dialogue throughout.

Many reviews (even those who praised it) felt it was TOO long. I disagree, the length was important to show the duration of pain and suffering this family went through to a man who could not be wavered in his conscience, even if it meant the ultimate sacrifice. I have read that Malick takes a least a year to edit his footage, and as someone who has some experience in this area, it shows. Some feel his shots are tedious and redundant, but I felt each showed a similar scene with new elements, be it the time-of-day, season, or even a different sound. Also, the intimacy he conveys in a touch, be it gentle or forceful is reinforced through his editing technique. Finally, the music not only fit, but became a part of the mood, without standing out, and screaming "listen to me" as some directors (cough, cough Spielberg) seem to do. Like his far more popular "Tree of Life, I feel this shows even more maturity and experience in his craft.
Highly recommended, but please see it in a theatre or at least on a screen of 100" in 4K with a quality sound system. Sadly most theatres, including Regal are still using 2K projectors. With my failing eyes, it is getting harder and harder to discern the difference (even with glasses) but this film demands it.

Their involvement in bringing down one of the most powerful network bosses in history is thoroughly examined, flaws and warts and all. Theyre sometimes selfish, often self-interested but always — under the flint — changed by what they experienced in the dark. And it doesnt flinch away from asking how complicit women can be in the culture, with Pospisil saying to Carlson, “Did you think what your silence would mean for us? For all of us? ” The other topic of already-heated discussion has been the fact that both the writer and director of Bombshell — which is being hailed as the first #MeToo film — are male (Charles Randolph and Jay Roach. But there is no visible impact on the integrity or detail of the storytelling. They patiently, painstakingly paint a picture of the culture, with a light, believable touch — the preferred wide shots, short body-skimming dresses, sticky heat-wrecked hair, transparent desks ensuring the visibility of smooth legs. From an early confrontation on the studio floor between Ailes (Lithgow) and Carlson after she appears on television without make-up — “Mouth shut, ears open: no-one wants to watch a middle-aged woman sweat her way through menopause on national television” — through to a skin-crawling incident with Pospisil behind the locked door of his private office, the portrayal of Ailes and his abuse is unflinching. The directing is only so-so; the pacing is a little weird; the writing is pretty heavy handed (something I already expected going in, but it exceeded my expectations as far as heavy-handedness goes) particularly when it came to dragging Trump into this affair (don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy, but this film went out of its way to continuously include him in the story) and the fictionalized portions of the story, most of which revolve around Kayla (Margot Robbie, The Wolf of Wall Street" and her in-office, closeted lesbian, friend Jess Carr (Kate McKinnon, Yesterday. feel pretty farfetched and silly, and that sort of detracts from the overall message the film is trying to send. At the same time, the true portions of the story were interesting, and I learned a bit; I thought all of the actors did a fine job; and, as I said before, this film's heart was in the right place: it is trying to forward a feminist workspace, and I think that's a very good thing.
While I was watching this film, however, I couldn't help but constantly wonder who this film was made for, because there were certain sections of the movie that were so heavy-handed it felt like I was watching a Christian film like "God's Not Dead" but instead of the creators building towards a sort of altar call they were shouting for Fox News to change its ways. The hard-rights- the people that wholeheartedly believe that Trump is right 100% of the time, that he has a God-given right to be president, the ones that listen to Fox News and believe whatever they say is 100% right 100% of the time- those are the kinds of people that really need to see this movie, because those are the hearts that need to be changed. The problem with this movie is that it is so blatantly attacking Fox News, Trump, and everyone in that establishment in such a naked way that anyone who might benefit from hearing that criticism will almost certainly avoid this movie. Yes, Robert Ailes (played by John Lithgow, Raising Caine" was a bad guy, and yes, Fox News needed to change its work atmosphere, but this film certainly wouldn't change anyone's mind whom wasn't already willing to have it changed.
